Uses and Benefits of Solar Panels

By Eunice Eadie Posted in weather / No Comments »

Some people think that installing solar panels can be a big hassle because of the installation fee. There are some companies that charge too much simply for the installation of solar panels and a lot of homeowners are turned off by this fact.

It’s a good thing that the installation of solar panels has gone down over the past years because of the increase of demand for it. However, the price is still too steep for a lot of people. Some environmentalists argue though that the hefty price of the solar panel is all worth it because of the money that people will be able to save later on. Solar panels should be treated as an investment because they can really help save money in the long run.

Those who are concerned about the environment always bring this up whenever the issue about electricity is being talked about. Even though solar panels are considered expensive, solar panels are more environments friendly and natural and do not harm anything in the process. Still, there are some people that are sceptical about how effective solar panels really are. Some questions raised are, how will the solar panel work if it’s raining the whole day and it’s not getting any amount of light from the sun? How will the solar panel work if the place where it has been installed is not correct? These things can all be answered by solar panel experts however.

Solar panels work in a way that each individual cell that makes up the panel absorbs light from the sun. The energy from the sun will then be transformed into electricity that can be used around the house. This can help save a lot in the electric bill. There are even some houses now that rely solely on solar energy and the homeowners do not have to pay for electricity at all.

Do remember though that in order to save the environment, we cannot rely on installing solar panels alone. Remember that there are items available for sale that can be used around the home that is more environments friendly. For instance, instead of using the usual light bulbs, fluorescent lights are more efficient and can help save electricity too.

You can also help save the environment by finding different products that are safer to use. There are now organic products that are being sold all over the world that can be used by people instead of the chemically induced ones.

If you want to install solar panels for your home but you are not sure how, you can always contact the nearest company that can install the solar panel for your home. Remember that the solar panels need not be installed immediately. You can always ask the staff for more information about how solar panels work and how it can help save energy. You can always decide that investing on solar panels will not work for you because of a variety of reasons but you can always inquire about it if you are really interested.

Majorca – practical info on this jewel of island

By James Elliott Posted in weather / No Comments »

If you are English or German speaking you will be in familiar territory on Majorca – or Mallorca as the locals call it. These nationalities provide the bulk of the tourists to Majorca. Better still, maybe learn some Spanish while you are here , the locals will certainly appreciate it. The other language here is Mallorquin – a language akin to Catalan – but some say it’s a dying language, more’s the pity.

Holiday weather – check it before you go!

We’re often asked – what are the basic words we should learn when visiting Spain? Here they are: (and very simple they are too!)

Hello is Hola

To bid good morning, it’s Buenas dias

Buenos noches is goodnight

Por Favor is please.

Gracias is thank you

You’re welcome is De nada

Donde Esta? Where is it?

Habla ingles? means do you speak english?

As far as shopping hours go, Majorca follows the Siesta tradition – though not of course in the main tourist areas. Normal siesta hours are 1.30 to 5pm, so shops are closed then. Sundays, not much is open. You can drink the tap water, it’s fine by EU health standards, but if you have a sensitive stomach you may wish to try the bottles water, with or without gas. In this case always refuse ice. And watch out for restaurants with open bottles of mineral water on the table – ask to see them open them in front of you.

The best way to get cash is via the cash machines. Banks can have long queues, and in any case are open just up until siesta time – they don’t reopen later.

If you need to do laundry, avoid the hotels – they are expensive. Unless your mum is paying! Otherwise you can find laundrettes in many locations, mostly good value, and for the anthropologists amongst you, they are a great way to meet the locals, if you are of a chatty disposition.

What Consequence Will Global Warming Have on Weather Patterns?

By Derek Anglin Posted in weather / No Comments »

Old Man Winter and La Nina, kick off the New Year with pretty the party. From southern Oregon, all the way to Seattle, heavy snow was the picture in the media. Floods had been soon to adhere to, as heavy snow turned to heavy rain. Power outages ran rampart by way of the region. If ever there was a time to have an emergency survival kit this was it.

A important storm system attacking the Seattle region dropped between 4 to six inches of snow on January 18th, 2012. To put this in perspective this region typically gets about 5.7 inches on average for the whole season, calculated more than the final 30 years. The snow was followed by an ice storm, bringing down trees and power lines throughout the region. Numerous roads were cut off and some 200,000 homes and organizations lost power. Puget Sound Power was quoted on its Facebook page saying “We feel it will be three to 4 days… perhaps longer,” ahead of power would be restored to most areas. Following the snow and ice, is the inevitable flooding that occurs during a fast melting period.

In the Salem, Oregon area the storm manifested itself a tiny differently. Whilst snow still fell, it was not the significant threat. Torturous winds gusting between 88 to 113 mph had been recorded. Several trees had been snapped, and uprooted blocking roads, and knocking out power to many homes in the region. This coupled with continuing moisture, brought about important flooding in coastal areas, and all through the Willamette valley.

A proper emergency survival kit can make these scenarios a lot simpler to manage. Most kits give some kind of a flashlight, generally 1 with batteries that will final for a handful of hours. A greater kit may well add some lengthy burning emergency candles. A deluxe kit even so, would not only contain these items, but also some sort of dynamo flashlight, or even a combo with a radio. A standard radio may well keep you informed, but deluxe kits may perhaps come with a climate band radio, which can offer additional detailed data about circumstances, declared state of emergencies, or specific directions.

Fantastic emergency survival kits will also come with some tools, and supplies that could come in pretty handy. Waterproof matches, in the case of flooding or inclement weather. A multi-function pocket tool, superior for cutting, opening cans, pliars for gripping, and quite a few other utilizes. Rope which can be used to hang factors, pull things up, or across. Emergency ponchos, are an additional popular item that can be worn to stay dry. Some emergency survival kits even come with an emergency camp stove, that burns fuel tablets for heat or cooking

Solar Panels As Sources of Alternative Electricity

By Eunice Eadie Posted in weather / No Comments »

When the Solar Panel was introduced in the market a few years back, people were skeptical about it. Those who are interested in science though know that using solar energy to be transformed into electricity is possible. A few people have already used solar energy for years even before environmentalist started to rally against consuming too much electricity because they say that it is bad for the environment since a lot of fuel is also used in the process.

With solar energy, you do not need oil to process it into electricity. You just need a solar panel to absorb the light of the sun for you and then transform it into electricity that you can use to do simple things around the house.

What is Solar Panel? It is a sort of device that can absorb light coming from the sun and then transform the light into electricity that people use every single day. Solar Panels are made up of individual solar cells. Each cell absorbs light and all of these can be used to transform solar energy into electricity.

There are some reports that the electricity that can be gotten from solar panels are limited and can only be used to do a few things at a time but those who have more adequate knowledge about it argue that it can be better than the usual electricity that we use up because you will never get a power shortage with solar energy. Not unless of course, you didn’t gather enough light to be transformed into electricity.

A lot of critics have already stated their distaste for the solar panel because they say that it is inconvenient. But is it really inconvenient? There are some who have compared the solar panel to the electrical cars that were made a few years back. The electric cars are efficient and it doesn’t need fuel. These cars can be used to drive around but then how will it be charged? It will still need electricity in order to work. Wouldn’t it be nice to charge electric cars using the electricity that was gathered from the solar panel? That would be very environment friendly.

A lot of people are concerned about solar panel though because of the cost to have it made or to have it installed in an establishment or your very own home. Some people have reported that the companies installing the Solar Panel are charging too much. The reason for this is because there aren’t any obvious demands for it even though it has been talked about and promoted several times in different types of digital media.

It’s a good thing that because it’s slowly being known in different parts of the world, the installation fee of solar panels are now cheaper than its rates a few years back although it is still more expensive than others would like it to be. However, do remember that once you have it in your home, you will be able to save up on electricity and this in the long run will help you save up more money.

Control Global Warming With Solar Energy and Solar Panels

By James Oliver Posted in weather / No Comments »

There are so many changes that is happening in this world and a lot of these changes are because of the climate change. Scientists and researchers believe that the change in the climate has already happened way back but because the effects are too strong to ignore now, people are already beginning to freak out because of it.

So many people are already doing things which they believe might help alter the recent climate change but they do not realize that things cannot be back to the way they were. What we can do now is just to prevent further damage by thinking of ways to become more efficient in the things that we use up. One example is electricity.

Electricity is something that people cannot live without anymore. There are just so many things that can be done with electricity. Also, a lot of the gadgets that we have now won’t work without electricity and that is the reason why we consume too much of it even though we don’t realize it.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have electricity but we won’t be using up the electricity that is available to us? Wouldn’t it be nice to have electricity that has been transformed from solar energy? If you think that having electricity that is more environmentally friendly is great then you might want to consider getting a solar panel for your home.

What is a solar panel? It is a panel made up of solar cells which main purpose is to get or absorb the light coming from the sun and then transform that into energy. There are some critics that say that getting a solar panel is not worth it because not all of the light that it gets from the sun transforms into electricity but it is still more efficient than using up the usual electricity.

There are some people who have already tried the solar panel and even though a lot of people swear that the solar panel has worked for them, there are still some that say that it’s only a waste of money. If ever the solar panel has not worked, it is possible that it wasn’t placed correctly.

Obviously, a solar panel needs to be put in a place where there is a lot of light and if the solar panel is placed in a dark place, it wouldn’t be able to work. Do remember that the solar panel is usually placed on the roof where the sun might hit it the most. Also, if your solar panel doesn’t work, it would be best to check if it was installed correctly. There is a possibility that something wrong was done or a mistake was made.

If you are still not convinced with the power of Solar Panels, you can probably check a few sites on the internet that are offering more explanation as to why these things were created. There are even some houses that rely on solar energy alone. These houses are only few but their owners have nothing to say but good words about solar energy and how it can be transformed into electricity.

Majorca’s Attractions

By James Wood Posted in weather / No Comments »

Majorca is stuffed full of attractions – it’s not just beaches and sand! From the wooded east coast to the mountains of Serra de Tramuntana, there’s something for everyone here. However, make sure you check the weather conditions for the time of year you are visiting, as the climate in Majorca (or Mallorca as they spell it here) can vary greatly throughout the year.

Serra de Tramuntana covers nearly half the island – with its peaks and rich valleys, it’s a great area to explore by car – or by foot for the more adventurous. But you won’t need any mountaineering experience – there are hikes to suit most levels.

The tallest mountian, Puig Major, is closed to the public making Puig de Massenella the highest accessible peak with a challenging but enjoyable hike to the summit. Other popular peaks include Sa Rateta, L’Ofre, and the Puig de Tossals Verds that has a circuit around the area. Villages may be crowded with tourists in the summer months, however come winter, most hotels will be closed and the peaks covered with snow.

S’Albufera d’Alcidia is a park on Majorca’s northern coast. Again, a trip by car or on foot can be rewarding for those looking for nature and some exercise. There are no park fees for hiking, but you will need to get a permit – in case you need rescuing! However, keep an eye on the weather, and make sure you bring rugged walking shoes.

On the east coat of Majorca, the Cuevas del Drach series of caves is a great thing to do, especially when the weather is bad. You can take walking tours in here, and listen to music events, all with the backdrop of one of the world’s most impressive underground lakes.

At the northernmost tip of Majorca you will come to The Cap de Formentor. 400 foot cliffs tower over the crashing waves, and the drive up here is both scary and breathtaking. Every so often there are viewpoints for spectacular views along the coast.

Ferrocarril de Sller is a train that connects Palma with the charming village of Sller, 3 km inland from the coast. It hasn’t changed much since it was built in 1912. The ride covers 27km and is a great day out.

For people who use up much fuel, the importance of having a jerry can for the safe storage of fuel cannot be overemphasized. Using this container ensures that you do not put the lives and properties of you and your family members to unnecessary risks. Window-shopping for the container could be a good decision because it will help you find out some things for yourself. The sellers should be able to give you useful advice that would guide you choice of the can. If they are unable to give you relevant advice that would help you in choosing a good product, the best thing to do is to check another store where they know about the products that they sell.

In your search, you need to consider what you will use the container to do. If you want to use it for PMS then you should know that you need something that is air tight because of the volatile nature of the liquid. In addition, the container should be fire resistant. If you purchase a container without doing your homework you could end up buying something that will not serve its purpose.

This is not supposed to be an issue but you need to note that some company are only after collecting the money you have but they give you almost nothing in return. Hence, you need to do some background work in order to know the company that ware dedicated to serving the consumers with the good products

Generally, the products have different capacities, therefore you need to consider the capacity of the container that will serve the purpose for which you are buying it.You not want to buy a product that will not serve its purpose. In fact, it is a waste of money to buy such product. Thus, you need to buy something that will be big enough to contain the quantity of fuel you need.

Finally, you should know that a jerry cans is of different types. There are those used by the military while others are for the civilians. This does not mean that it is an offense for a civilian to use the one meant for the military if it best suits his purpose. Choosing Between Roofing Replacement Or Repair

By Adriana Noton Posted in weather / No Comments »

Roofing goes bad for many reasons. In some cases, storms may cause damage or stress on the materials. In other cases, it simply goes bad because of its age. Regardless, there are usually signs that it is beginning to wear. In order to save money, it is important to recognize the signs of damage or wear so you can make the right decision between repairing and replacing.

Most materials will last between fifteen and twenty years. Unless there is significant damage, you may be fine simply having a repair done. The standard for most materials is a minimum of fifteen years. However, there are some materials, such as copper, that can last closer to forty years before needing to be replaced. In this case, it is best to find out what type of materials were used and learn how long they are supposed to last. If their expiration is close, it may be better to hire a contractor to completely replace the roof.

The types of materials used play a major role in their replacement expiration time. The cheaper materials do not usually withstand ice and snow as well as some of the more expensive materials. If the roof is flat, it may begin to sag, causing a pooling effect that will accelerate the damage done. It is important to inspect the roof on a regular basis for damage and wear.

Severe weather may have an immediate effect on the materials. If a tree goes through the roof, it will most certainly need to be replaced. In these cases, there is usually frame damage as well. However, other types of damage can be done such as cracked tiles. Materials may also be blown off the roof in high wind storms. If there has been a severe storm in the area, you should at least visually inspect the roof for damage. Also look for signs of leaks internally.

Water stains are an indication of a problem. If the ceiling or wall begins to exhibit yellowing, peeling, or stains you will need to have a professional inspect for damages. A professional should be able to determine if the source of the water damage is from a leaking ceiling or from plumbing leaks.

Looking for external damage is important. Even if there are no major weather systems causing severe weather, the changes from hot to cold and back can break down the materials. Look for aging, warped, cracked, or sagging areas. You will want to make note of unusually dark streaks, algae, and vines growing under the tiles.

Deciding between repairing and replacing can save or cost thousands of dollars. If a repair is all that is needed, the cost difference will be huge. However, if the material is aging and there continue to be ongoing repair costs, it may cost less to simply replace the entire cover.

Roofing protects both the people and household items it covers. As the seasons change from warm to cold and back the stress can cause the materials to break down. Be aware of changes by performing a quick visual inspection from time to time. This can usually be done from the safety of the ground. If you’re not sure if there is a problem, it is always best to seek the counsel of a professional.
