How You Can Avoid Deep Vein Thrombosis While Flying

By Kimberly Filart Posted in travel / No Comments »

Consulting your obstetrician so that you can be free from any kinds of complications is the ideal thing to do if you need to travel while you are pregnant.

It is not uncommon that flying can cause problems to both you, the mother, and the fetus inside you. Aside from the potentially harmful effects of high cosmic radiation as a result of being in a high altitude, being in a flight may also make you immobile for a long period of time unless you are aware of what this can bring. And among these things that may be caused by sitting still for an extended period, Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT could become a problem.

This is characterized by coagulated or solidified volumes of blood in deep veins. DVT can be due to a lof of different factors but all of them can cause hypercoagulability or the tendency for blood to solidify even on instances when it’s not necessary. Platelets are components in blood that are responsible for blood coagulation which we need to stop the bleeding when we have cuts or wounds. But hypercoagulability becomes a problem because it can create those clots even when they are not needed.

When you are on an airplane, you have the tendency to be constantly sitting the entire flight. It’s relatively okay but it creates problems when you are pregnant. This is because during pregnancy, there are hormonal changes that promote an over activity of your blood coagulation functions. Another thing is that your veins, which carry blood back to your heart, will have a hard time overcoming this pressure and bring the blood back up from your lower extremities because of the downward pressure exerted by your uterus. Because of this, an environment which will make unnecessary coagulations highly possible is created.

For this reason, it is important that you stand up and get moving at regular intervals through the flight, especially if it’s a long one. This will promote blood circulation and will help those veins on your legs and feet push blood back to your heart where it goes into your lungs for oxygenation and then goes back to your heart again distribution to your different body parts. This is how a normal circulatory cycle works and if something like hypercoagulability stop it from continuing normally, it could create serious complications which can even include death when the coagulated blood portion is dislodged from the vein and goes into the lungs where it can cause pulmonary embolism (blockage in lung arteries).

As long as your obstetrician gives you the go signal, go and get than dream vacation you’ve planned. If you’re looking for cheap flights to Asia or cheap flights to Aruba or wherever that dream holiday awaits you, check your resources online. You’ll be amazed to find just how many great choices you have.

A Prepaid Card Helps You Save Money When You Buy Euros… But Which One Should You Go For?

By Susan Diamond Posted in travel / 1 Comment »

If you want to go on a business trip to Europe, or even a family holiday or backpacking adventure, you need to consider the aspect of access to your money while you are there. There are various options, not all of them equally convenient and not all carrying the same cost. Let’s discuss the issue of getting the best best euro exchange rate briefly.

Firstly you can of course go to your bank or an official money changer and exchange all your British Pounds for Euros in cash. You will have a thick wad of notes and probably feel very rich, but if you stand still to think about this option for more than five seconds, you will realize it’s very risky. No matter where you hide that money, it can be stolen and you will have no way of getting it back.

Another option you could consider is to convert your GBPs into travellers cheques. It’s endlessly less risky than carrying cash, since usually travellers cheques are at least insured. It’s unlikely that you will get the best exchange rate though and you’ll soon start to get tired of standing in queues to exchange travellers cheques each time you need more cash.

You could use your credit card or ordinary debit card, but you won’t get the most favourable exchange rates this way and could end up paying very high withdrawal fees.

The most modern and as it happens also the most practical solution is to use prepaid currency cards. How these work is that you go to the money changer and pay in the amount in GBP. He will then load the equivalent in Euros on the prepaid card and you can use it all over Europe like any other type of debit or credit card. The exchange rate is normally more favourable than when using either travellers cheques or credit cards.

A nice plus of this kind of card is that, should you run out of cash while exploring Pristina in Kosovo, someone at home can easily add more funds to the card by simply using the online interface. If the currency card is linked to your current account, you can arrange the transfer yourself by simply phoning the bank. And we can confirm that they indeed accept Euros in Pristina.

The fees that you have to pay when using the prepaid currency card to buy something is similar to what you would pay with a credit or debit card. When you draw money from an ATM, you are, however, likely to pay substantially lower banking charges.

One thing you have to ensure before leaving home is that the card is properly insured. If it gets lost or stolen, then you will be refunded. Otherwise you’ll lose out on one of the major benefits of using such a card.

Getting the best Euro exchange rate is therefore perhaps slightly different than what you expected, but don’t worry, you will soon get used to your shiny new prepaid currency card!

Spend less cash when you travel overseas, and get a prepaid card. To get hold of the cheapest prices, have a look at this guide to getting the best euro exchange rate on this site. Have a good holiday!

Rotavirus Vaccines Confirmed To Be Safe

By Michael Kirsch Posted in travel / No Comments »

If you have plans to travel soon, you may also have plans to get the rotavirus vaccine. There has been recent speculation as to wheather or not both vaccines for the virus were contaminated. The Food and Drug Administartion (FDA) has just recently announced that both vaccines are safe.

Two vaccines are currently available for prevention of rotavirus: Rotarix and Rotateq. In March the FDA discovered small amounts of a pig virus in the Rotarix vaccine. At that time, the agency recommended using Rotateq, assuming it to be safe and pure. It was then later discovered that Rotateq also contained a pig virus. It is not know how this contamination occurred.

Both vaccines have now been declared to be safe by the FDA, and are recommended to prevent the rotavirus. It has been stated by the FDA that the pig virus in the vaccine can not hurt people. Vaccines for the rotavirus has been shown to prevent gastroenterititis. This disease can case severe dehydration, as well as diarrhea. This can be very deadly to children. Medical experts believe that vaccines against the rotavirus has the potential to save million of lives through the next 10 years. There has been much evidence reported in the past year by scientists that the vaccines are very effective. Consult your doctor to decide if these vaccines are right for you.

A person planning on traveling internationally may require a variety of vaccinations before traveling. There is little to no cause to be concerned over the quality of these vaccinations. All vaccines are subjected to a very high standard of quality control. Nothing is 100% pure, and all vaccines and medications have some risk involved. However these risks are almost always far less then the risks associated with not receiving the recommended medicine or vaccine.

Travelers may be scared by the term “contaminated”, and perhaps there is a better way to describe this small issue. Perhaps “inert ingredient” is more appropriate. To keep the issue in perspective, I am a gastroenterologist. I would gladly swallow some inert pig virus, any day, if it will save me from all the joys and thrills of acute gastroenteritis.

Learn How To Downsive Your Luggage

By Jack Wogan Posted in travel / No Comments »

Going on a trip is always exciting, and if you are traveling towards a great vacation instead of a series of boring business meetings, it’s even better. But no matter what your destination is, packing is always a difficult and sometimes even an annoying process. You either forget something important and necessary, such as your tooth paste or phone charger or you are extra-cautious and stuff your suitcase or backpack with lots of heavy “just in case” items. Either way, you never seem to get it right. Unless you keep in mind some simple tricks.

First things first: before packing you need some useful information and what better place to get it from then your hotel’s staff? Pick up the phone and find out if they have a hairdryer, an iron and other such necessary but bulky accessories. You will certainly need those, particularly if you are planning to stay for more than just a couple of days. In that case you may want to wash some of your cloths. And, since you called, it wouldn’t hurt to ask about the weather. Its a useful piece of information that will allow you to pack only clothes you will actually wear and avoid “just in case” sweaters, boots or umbrellas.

All that excitement before leaving for a vacation may cause some chaos. The best way to deal with it is by making lists. For everything! Just write down the places you have to go to, the events you plan to attend, the things you have to do and what items will you need for each of them. If you are going on hiking expedition with no party in the program, chances are you won’t need that evening gown or high heels shoes. Also, if you will only be gone for three days, there is really no point in packing six pairs of shoes and a dozen pairs of jeans, is it?

Once you have sorted out all these details, the only thing left is to start packing. Unless you actually like ironing and want this to be the first thing you do when reaching your destination, do what the experienced backpackers do: just roll them. This method has been tested by most travelers and they all swear it never fails. It’s guaranteed to make your cloths wrinkle resistant and to save you a lot of space in the suitcase.

Toiletries are just as important as cloths. Call your hotel and find out if they have soap and shampoo. If they do, it would be a lot easier to use what they have, instead of carrying those items along. Still, if the hotel doesn’t offer such products or if, by any reason, you need special ones, just bring your own. Buy travel-size versions of your favorite products or small plastic bottles and decant from larger ones. And remember: don’t pack all your beauty products. Your skin can make without a scrub for a couple of days. Instead, go for 2 in 1 cosmetic such as shampoo/conditioner combination. You will save space in your suitcase and, if combined with the above tips, helps you return from your vacation relaxed and with no back pain.

Stoke Place is available for exclusive hire for birthdays, wedding venues in buckinghamshire, anniversaries or just an excuse to get together.

This can be something an entrepreneur may wish to bid for, for starters.

This does all the success that people are having with this type of program. It takes travelling to a whole new level and finds a way to also take extra income online to greater heights. If you are a person or a natural born salesperson, then this is just the business venture for you.

Get Backpacker Travel Insurance

By Roc Selly Posted in travel / No Comments »

If you’re taking off for any length of time away on holiday or business, it should not be a question of whether or not to buy insurance but rather who to get your insurance from. Low cost backpacker travel insurance is excellent for backpackers, students doing their gap year travel and any young person looking for affordable travel insurance when taking long trips. For the young traveller, becoming a backpacker is quite often the first experience of having to organise every aspect of their life and while this can be daunting, it is also very rewarding.

You are under no obligation to buy your backpacker travel insurance from your travel agent even though you may feel you need to. Ignore any pressure from your agent as you are usually better off sourcing your insurance from an independent travel insurance company.

While it’s pretty obvious why so many backpackers simply opt for the cheapest backpacker travel insurance available it’s also important to make sure that when you’re offered a cheap backpacker travel insurance quote, you examine the small print. You may find that your so-called cheap backpacker travel insurance doesn’t actually deliver you sufficient insurance cover for the activities or destinations you’re expecting to take part in during your backpacking adventure.

It is vital that your backpacker travel insurance policy always includes cover for medical emergencies, personal possessions, equipment damage, personal liability, travel delays and legal costs. Few foreign countries have free health services and the cost of medical treatment can be unbearable but not if you have the protection of good backpacker travel insurance. Backpacker travel insurance can provide you with financial cover for added peace of mind if you fall ill while away.

You may want to add cover while you are abroad if you decide to do different activities or acquire new possessions. Maybe you’ll need to access/update your backpacker travel insurance policy online. Purchase online backpacker travel insurance if you’re going to benefit from having a policy accessible via the internet.

A standard backpacker travel insurance policy normally includes some sort of limitation on the travel period and although backpacker travel insurance is likely to be longer than that of a standard policy, you should make sure that you are aware of any limitations held within your backpacker travel insurance before you leave. Backpacker travel insurance packages have basic cover levels but still give you the liberty of maximising your experience abroad without any fear of financial crisis.

If you plan on working while you’re away backpacking, confirm that the policy you’ve chosen to insure yourself covers you for holiday work and that it provides cover for vulnerable baggage, personal possessions and cash.

Before you purchase your backpacker travel insurance online, check out our great value and trustworthy travel insurance packages.
